Safety and Security

Personal security tips

Follow these guidelines recommended by our security team to help you stay safe, whether you're on campus or in the community.

Plan ahead

  • Program 1-855-239-7654 (campus security) into your phone.
  • Agree to share your plans. For example: send a friend quick text when you leave an evening class, and another when you arrive home safely.

When walking

  • When possible, walk with others. Request a Safewalk whenever you need it.
  • Stay aware: keep earbuds out of your ears, and eyes off your phone screen.
  • Stick to well-lit paths and sidewalks.
  • Have your keys ready to enter your vehicle.

Cars on campus

  • Never leave valuables visible in your vehicle. If you must leave something, put it in the trunk or cover it well.
  • Park in a well-lit area, close to campus buildings if possible.
  • Take note of where you parked so you can easily locate your car.

Anywhere on campus

  • Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, ask for help.
  • Show confidence and purpose. One way to do this is to keep your shoulders back and chin up.
  • Never leave your laptop, phone, or bag unattended on campus.
